Applications are open and will be accepted on a rolling basis until October 31, 2014. Don’t wait- spots are filling up quickly!

You should apply to LEAP if you:

  • Aspire to be a leader in advancing synthetic biology.
  • Can articulate a need or opportunity for best advancing synthetic biology that you are motivated to
 address.
  • Seek mentorship and partnership to help make your idea actionable and scaleable.
  • Want to develop your knowledge, skills and capacities for working effectively across social and organizational contexts shaping biotechnology.
  • Are an early-career professional (new investigator or career equivalent) or transitioning into a new role.

LEAP will help you by providing the opportunity to:

  • Work with your peers, a professional creative facilitation team, and guest experts across sectors in 
biotechnology.
  • Explore frameworks for assessing how biotechnologies can create value.
  • Develop leadership skills for engaging across diverse organizational contexts shaping biotechnology.
  • Create actionable plans for mobilizing your ideas for best advancing synthetic biology.
  • Share your plans with individuals and organizations that can support your goals beyond LEAP.

During the first half of the program, fellows will be exposed to leaders in synthetic biology, including scientists and engineers, policy makers, and funders. LEAP fellows will formulate an ‘action plan,’ a solution that fills a need in the field. With the help of mentors, supporters, and other LEAP fellows, each fellow will refine their action plans during a residential workshop. Following the residential workshop, LEAP fellows will work with mentors and staff to develop, resource and launch their plans.

As a LEAP Fellow, you will be invited to:

  • Attend landscape meetings in Washington DC in February 2015
  • Attend the entire weeklong residential workshop in June 2015
  • Contribute to preparatory activities prior to the residential workshop
  • Develop a white paper, or ‘action plan,’ based on ideas developed at the LEAP residential workshop
  • Contribute original content to synbioleap.org
  • Attend scheduled calls and virtual meetings

The LEAP program is defined by the interests and ideas of its participants and their community. The LEAP application is designed to help the organizers select a diverse but complementary group of participants and tailor the program to help each participant meet their goals.
